In the same way, I find some of the consonant and vowel names listed in the book differ from those in more authority works. The structure is wonderful for one to start learning Hebrew. Say, it list 'Kamets' rather than 'Kamats'. However, some of the pronunciation is somewhat 'beautified' to a USA ear, and not really Modern Israeli Hebrew Accent. some examples: (1) letter 'resh' is pronounced /r/, but an Israeli does not pronounce it that way; (2) vowel 'tsere' is pronounced /ei/, but an Israeli pronounce it /e/. My suggestion is: you can use this set to start, but after you finished, fine tune your pronunciation with other works such as: , ,. In fact, my rate of two star is trying to attract your attention, this set may deserve a four star.
I have just now started hebrew from scratch with no other experience whatsoever. This book has taught me the whole alphabet in an easy way and I am now ready to move on to grammar and syntax. It is a must buy for beginning students to hebrew.
The book was good, except that it seems too difficult items came too soon, thereby slowing some students in their learning.
I was a bit disappoint after reading. It teaches out of order which was a bit confusing and went a bit fast. I learned more online than book. But I keep it for a review and reference.
It keeps the learner interested and not bogged down with too much information at one time. Since that time, I have learned so much. I didn't know the first thing about Hebrew letters, until I purchased this book. It takes things very slowly and introduces constanants and vowels each chapter. I can look at Hebrew letters and be able to read some of them (I haven't read through the whole book yet, so I don't know all of the constanants and vowels). From the minute I opened this book, I realized how user friendly it was. This book is very simple to understand, and makes learning to read Hebrew a lot of fun. Although I haven't finished using/reading this book, based upon what I have learned so far, I must rate this book a 5. If you want to learn how to read Hebrew, and you are a slow learner, then you must get this book.
